Express Service built its first shunter in 2002. Working long years in the Bulgarian railway industry, we encountered the problem that there were not enough light traction locomotives. We found unreasonable that expensive, non-efficient and obsolete locomotives were performing light shunting activities. That is why we decided to design new diesel-hydraulic light shunting locomotive. Since 2002 we have made a lot of improvements and currently we offer two series of diesel shunters – MDD 1-00 and MDD 2-00. Our shunters are very efficient, safe, environmentally friendly, and really reduce your shunting costs!

Standard equipment of MDD 2-00 series of locomotives:

  • Engines – two diesel engines Perkins or JCB /75 - 120 kW each/ forming two independent power groups driving each of the two axles
  • Transmissions - two hydraulic torque converters and 4-speed automatic powershift transmissions by International Transmissions
  • Gearboxes - two reducing geraboxes are clutched to the powershifts' outputs. A choice of gear ratios - i.e. shunters' top speeds
  • Final Drives - two Voith wheelset gearboxes driving each of the axles
  • Air Installation - two screw air compressors. 1500l. compressed 5 and 10 bar air for braking and other applications
  • Couplers - UIC screw couplers
  • Frame - strong welded construction of longitudinal and cross beams of the frame
  • Cabin - spacious cabin laying on rubber tampons. Two command decks inside, sliding and heated windows, and other extras
  • Fuel Tanks - two fuel tanks securely built into the frame. Capacity of 350l. allows approx. 15 days of shunter's autonomy
  • Weight - Variable for every single order - from 16t. to 30t. to fit every specific traction designation
  • Safety - a lot of software and hardware preventive solutions. Parking brake, 7 emergency stop buttons, others...
  • Control - two decks in the cabin and radio remote control

Optional equipment of MDD 2-00 series of locomotives: other couplers; different engines, transmissions and gearboxes to fit your exact requirements in terms of power and speed; air conditioning; sanding; vigliance; tachometry; cranes /for service vehicles/; others...

           
Due to the patented transmissions sequence and low top speed, MDD are able to shunt up to 1800t. trains /on 0%/!
